Matthew Barber re-elected as Thames Valley PCC

Matthew Barber has been re-elected as Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Thames Valley.

Mr Barber, a Conservative who has been in the role since May 2021, was elected on 144,092 votes from across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

His closest rival, Labour's Tim Starkey, received 141,749 votes.

This is the fourth election for a PCC since the role was first introduced in 2012.

Mr Barber said: "It was a much finer margin but given the lower turnout - and we are all aware of the national backdrop to this round of elections - I’m delighted to continue to be serving people in Thames Valley, and serving every community, no matter how people have voted."

Thirteen counts were held across the region with the result announced at the main hub at Newbury Race course on Saturday afternoon.

Liberal Democrat candidate Tim Bearder gained 84,341 votes, Ben Holden-Crowther - representing More Police Officers for the Thames Valley - had 46,853 and independent Russell Fowler received 31,460.

About a quarter of eligible voters chose to have their say.

The lowest turn out was in Bracknell Forest, with just 15%.
