Labour win in Milton Keynes 'a boost ahead of general election'

The leader of Milton Keynes City Council says Labour's win is exactly what the party needs ahead of a general election.

Labour regained control of the council for the first time in 24 years, after taking seats from the Conservatives.

"We won seats where we've never had all three councillors," said Pete Marland.

Labour won nine seats, gaining three extra councillors, while the Liberal Democrats also took two seats from the Tories, winning six. Three Conservative councillors held their seats.

The council has been under no overall control since 2006.
