MP Dame Andrea Jenkyns condemns 'vile' email targeting her son

Police are investigating a report of "racially aggravated malicious communications" after a West Yorkshire MP received a "vile" email.

Dame Andrea Jenkyns, Conservative MP for Morley and Outwood, highlighted the message, aimed at her and her son, on social media on Tuesday.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, she said: "Just received this email. Vile and bringing my young child into it."

The BBC has contacted Dame Andrea's office for comment.

Speaking on GB News, Dame Andrea said she had been the target of abuse on numerous occasions.

"It just goes on and on and every time people get let off," she said.

"I'm sick of it."

Last week the government announced a £31m package to protect the UK's democratic processes from disruption, which could include hiring bodyguards for those MPs most at risk.

Announcing the package, Home Secretary James Cleverly said no Member of Parliament "should have to accept that enduring hate crimes, harassment, or threats is part of the job".

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said a criminal investigation had been opened after the force received a report of "a racially aggravated malicious communications offence made online to a serving MP".
