Guide dogs: Beano comics and charity buddy up to raise awareness

Seven-year-old Alex and his support dog Chance are starring as characters in a special edition of Beano.

The comic has been created with the Guide Dogs charity to raise awareness of how dogs can help children who are blind or partially sighted.

It features the stories of of real children and is all about buddy dogs - dogs that are partnered with children to support and help them.

It is hoped it will help people learn about the challenges other children might have and how they can help.

Seven-year-old Alex and his buddy dog Chance are characters in the comic and Alex's older brother Ross is part of the audio version of the comic.

Alex has had Chance for two years after his eyes were damaged in an illness when he was just three-weeks-old.

Chance helps support Alex and of course provides lots of cuddles.

The comic books story is all about Erbert, one of the Bash Street Kids, talking to his friends and visiting the Guide Dogs National Centre.

The editor of the comic Craig Graham said it was important to raise awareness about the impact it can have on children.

"At Beano, it's important to us to reflect kids' experiences and help them navigate life with the fun and mischief that all kids should get to enjoy," he said.
